what is everybody’s opinion of UV Filters.

Starting a 165 gallon tank

have a 29 gallon tank that is about a year old and am constantly doing weekly water changes or algae goes crazy.

those types of remedies are simply band aid and honestly UV filter will not going to do a whole lot to prevent algae outbreaks.
You need to find the source.
Algae requires phos nitrates and strong lights. Something is out of wack and needs to be fixed.

I added a UV filter to my tank during a GHA and Cyno outbreak on a new tank. Literally did wonders on the DT. Cyno disappeared and now I only have a little GHA in the sump. Took about 3 days to clear out the cyno in the DT.

I'm no longer using it and have had no more tank uglies since turning it off three weeks ago. It got me over the hump.
