I’m coming back from the hobby and UV is relatively knew to me. Does it actually help against parasites?

if so why would you need to quarantine if you have one.

Have you had any parasite issues since you got one?

The correct size with the correct flow probably helps. However it will not cure and tanks have still had disease with UV's.

I did not notice any change in ich breakouts after adding one.

The problem is we usually put these in our sumps and the parasites don't all flow through there. Plenty will make it to our sand and so on to encyst and reproduce.

On bulk reef supply they cost $400 for 150+ plus tanks. Not sure if I would pay the price for something I’m not even sure works.

You will want to look into the up the exact size vs flow for parasites as there is different flow for parasites vs algae/dino. I would not buy based on what BRS website says.

If you are concerned about fish disease, probably better off having an old established tank/rock and feeding live foods.

I would only buy a uv for parasites. I’m not worried about algae/Dino
