UV For Red Sea Reefer 525. Plumbing and difference?

So it looks like I’m getting dinos in my new 525 - it’s only been up for 2.5 months, but it certainly looks like it’s spreading rapidly. I battled dinos in my 30g a while ago and successfully kept them under control with regular p04 dosing and a dedicated UV, so I’m taking the same approach here. I’ve got the dosing handled, but I’m lost on the UV stuff.

Ideally, I would just get an oversized UV, probably meant for a pond or something. I would purchase a pump with appropriate flow, plumb it into the UV, and then plumb the return back into my sump.

There are a number of products with a VAST price difference. I know that a lot of people go for and trust Aqua UV. I don’t necessarily mind spending the money on something like that, but I just don’t understand the difference between something like an Aqua UV 57 for $475 vs a Jebao UV 55 intended for a pond for $80?

Can anyone shed some light (hah) on this for me?

@brandon429 you’ve recommended pond UVs in the past. Do you know what makes the others so much more expensive? What would you use for a 140 gallon?

the unit like the above exposes you and everything around it to UV light. It’s not enclosed. It will eventually deteriorate plastics and cause severe damage to your eyes If looked at directly.

you know, I have thought about the very same question for my 750xxl Ok well 650P now.
the thing with UV, as I am sure you know, is it's all about flow rate one flow rate works for algae another for parasites. so what ever one you get, make sure you have the flow rate dialed in for what you want to do.

now to your question. lots of floks are very happy with the pentair UV but dang $$$ and like you i want to know what I would be getting for all that dough. I am sure it's better that say a 55W jebo pond UV in build quality. but at 4x the price tag?

I have even thought of DIY one get the replacement lamps and driver a cpl of those gaskets and some PVC pipe and bam a UV. be more than the jebo tho.

like you I am not sure where to spend my hard earned $$ I am leaning towards a jebo pond uv...but then...buy once cry once.

anyone out there On R2R use the jebo pond UVs??
