Evening dudes

The question I have is I now I have a set of hydras

So due to LEDs not putting out every little of any radiation , do sps corals actualy grow under this light or use it in any way or is it purely to bring out there colours?

Thanks for reading guys

I have a 120w chinese led fixture 30g sps tank and growth is amazing once you have params down they grow like wildfire

I do apologise dude I forgot to mention in the body of the thread that I meant just the uv on it's own not the rest of the light sorry

No the hydra lighting comes with uv bulbs , it's just lighting for the top of the tank

Oh ultraviolet color correct my fixture has afew ultraviolet and acros soak it in

Ahhh ok then so they do use the uv to grow and not just to show there colours then? I was curious because the mh vho and t5's all produce more radiation uv wise where as the led's don't

People say leds suck but i had t5 and led are amazing lower electric bill i am currently 80% white 60% blue with uv lights above tank 6 inchs which is a 30 gal 18 high and my sps are out growing plugs and monti could never be happier so yes the uv is alot better and par is amazingly better imo

Well I'm new to sps so I only have the one monti for the time being while I get my calcium reactor up and running but I have found a quantum par meter on eBay for £52 which I think works out at about $80 so before I add more I'll be getting that just for piece of mind , I'm running 70% white , 63% deep blue 63% royal blue ,20% red ,15% green 15% violet and 100% uv, my lights stand about 10" from my water

Yea man sounds good just amke sure you read placement and flow some sps hate flow some love flow just need to find happy medium heres some of my sps

after and thats 1 month exact growth so you can achieve growth with leds and uv

They look really nice mate , they birds nests? I'm waiting for mine to get there colour ATM they are very slowly getting there

Bob you from New Zealand mate.

Corals do use uv or hyper violet. there is two violets in that nm range. It's not technically UV light but it is in a nm range that is used or useful to the corals. It also make them look cool. The light is almost out of the range we can see so when they are on the look dim but believe me there not. Looks like the light has a good mix of LEDs. Looks like you have 90 degree optics if your 10" of the water. Preferably I would use more blue than white but how ever you like it. I run high on blue and about 40% less of white. It's mainly how you like it.

Is your light dim able or programmable. I would ramp up and down through the day. Run whites high for 2 hours for high noon effect about 10 to 20% higher than the ramp to %. Just my thoughts

I'm not from New Zealand mate no I'm from jolly old England lol

Thanks for the thoughts and I will defiantly make some use of what you have told me , I can choose what % of white, violet , red, green, deep blue, royal blue and uv from 0% to 100% , unfortunately I don't know if I can ramp up and down through the day but I could always give it slightly less full light and a longer ramp time each side

I would also like to mount my lights lower but unfortunately there's only the one spot I have on my tank which sucks , hens why I'm running slightly brighter
