I have a 90 gallon reef and I picked up a 9 watt uv light with a bunch of stuff I got today(it was in the box that I bought)

Brand new bulbs so I'm not worried about that, my question is If I hook it up to a slow rated pump, will 9 watts work for this size tank?

I'm just looking for preventative maintenance, not more then that.

Thanks

Rich

I think you will be fine. I run a 18w on my 180 display. But you state you want yo run it for preventative reasons, such as what, Disease control? If so I w Ooo silent even bother. If ich doesn't physically run thru the light slow enough it won't kill the parasite. So basically it will be largely ineffective just for that. I only run mine because it helps with water clarity.

water clarity is my goal. I should have put that in. I set up a qt tank, so all new fish will be swimming in there first. So I'm not to worried about ich, I just want ultra crystal clear water :)
