hey quick question, I have 35.5" UV light I just hooked up in my 100 gal Reef tank. at the same time I built a very small sump and put in a skimmer and a ground probe. now my leather corals are turning black and nasty after less then 24 hours (this happened about 1 week ago and thus the ground probe) is it possible that I am using to big of a UV light? or is their something else going on? very new to the hobby. thnks

How many Watts? And your tank is Lps I assume, water could be to clean /sterile Lps like a little bit of a dirty tank, try taking off the UV and see what happens.

What type of silicone did you use and how long ago did you make it?

I believe the UV is 60W. I don't have much in the tank. 2 colony polyps, pair of clown, peppermint/banded coral/fire shrimp, bi-colored dotty, yellow tang, sally and emerald crab, 2 feather dusters, clean up crew.

it is DAP window door and siding 100% waterproof 100% silicone. contains HYDRO-TREATED MIDDLE PETROLEUM.

There is your problem, that silicone ismold and mildew resistant. That is toxic. Pull the sump and you will need to use ge silicone I which is fine to use.
