I bought a piece of acrylic to make a lid for my tank to prevent any more fish suicides. As I'm cutting it to fit I see some small print that says it blocks uv light from both sides. I'm wondering if I drill holes across the whole thing is that gonna let enough uv light through for the corals or do I need to scrape this and try again?

I am not sure how much U.V. is being blocked and if that even matters. Most of the usable light spectrum for corals is near U.V. but not actually in the U.V. spectrum. Water filters out a lot of U.V. as well. Might check with one of the light experts on the forum to see what they think.

Just to update so far everything seems to be fine. I have lost all but 2 acans but as I've seen the peppermint shrimp ripping them up and eating them it's not light related. All other corals are opening up and looking big and beautiful.

I would be putting a screen mesh over the tank. I think thats a better choice.
