UV Light

I"m wondering how many here use a UV sterilizer on their tank, and if so how often do you run it, and have you notice any benefit in using it vs without - I'm not sure how easy it is to tell if there's any significant advantage in using one versus not.

yes i run them on all my tanks and ozone makes it look like the fish are floating clear water.

Sadly, despite using uv, i newer had such clarity of water. Maybe once-twice, for few hours max, this is probably because poor cheap and .,.... Uv...

mine is 80 watts low flow and 120 watts high flow on my 300 gallon tanks.
and 400 mg/hr ozone.

I have them on both of my tanks. I run them 12 hours a day roughly on the same timer as my fuge lights. I was considering not using them as I wasn't sure of the benefits overall. Until I recently lost power for 3 days after Hurricane Ian. I was only running returns with my genni so I had good filtration but when the lights hit I had crazy bacteria blooms after power was restored. The UV had them crystal clear again in a day. Made me a believer.

Thanks for sharing - hope you didn't have any negative consequences from the hurricane. Good to hear that in your case, the use of a UV light clearly showed a difference. I imagine with UV it can be difficult to 'believe' or not whether it's doing anything otherwise.

I'm unsure, I have always been hands on in cleaning my aquriam fortnightly, seachem/ products suggested turning of UV for 48 hrs, it's a weird suggestion for me as some use seachem to 'cycle' their aquriam
I'm unsure about using u.v, I honestly don't think it helps but who knows, I only added when I had an algae outbreak.
