I've got an Aqua UV being delivered today that I will be installing this weekend. Would the drain section be the best place for it, the return, or it doesn't matter?

You want to control the flow, return flow is probably too much. T it off or use a separate pump so you can adjust the flow

I wasn't going to run it off the return pump so I bought a Rio to use with the UV. Now, I have to figure out where to put it.

Return section. You want the absolute cleanest possible water otherwise organisms can be shaded from the UV light by particles and not exposed and inactivated.

The proper way to install U.V. is as the final filter before a return to the aquarium. That means that it is sized to the flow rate of the main return pump. I find most people will not buy the proper size unit and therefore do not get all the benefit of the filter system. At least place it in a loop with a proper sized pump with a mechanical filter before the U.V. so that the clearest water is getting the highest kill rate possible. Otherwise you are trying to run a heavy duty truck with a moped motor...not such a great idea right?
