I have a 100g dt and and about 50g in my sump in thr basement w/ about 16 foot head from thr sump to the display. Im running a reeflo Goby return (sister of the hammerhead) at my head Im probably getting between 1500 and 2500 gph return.

What flow do I need to run my coralife 36w uv at to best deal with Ostreopsis? Should i try to plumb this in to.my return in the basement, a seperate pump into the basement sump or a seperate pump directly to the main display? If anyone has any info on setting up UV sterliazers in a similar system I would appreciate the link. Thanks

I have a few different maxijet 650 to 1200 sitting around, i have a mag drive 9.5, sitting around I can use as needed. Even if its a temp setup I would like to get this up and running as soon as possible. Then if i have to get a new pump or do any major plumbing i can work on it later.

Good evening

I’ll try to help since I’m in the middle of setting up a UV now as well. I am not sure I follow you on pumps. the maxi and danner will not work power wise. I’m not using coralife but they do have a flow chart on the bottom right that will give your flow recommendation.

i am attaching the link. once you are getting under 400 gph or so, or past 45k um you go into killing of beneficial things

Thanks for jumping in. I have a few questions bc to me the manual didn't help much. The chart says algae 680gph and parasites 290gph and bacteria someplace over 1,000 gph, but my Ostreopsis is a protist so should I run flow closer to 680 or 290? I assume i dont want to run any more then say 700gph. The danner mag 9.5 runs 950gph so with a few feet head its about 740gph so my thought is that would be about right but I want to confirm my logic is right.

Beyond the flow im trying to decide how to set it up w/o having stray hoses over the back of my dt. Currently everythubg else is hidden in the basement except my overflow.

1. Do i need a prefilter?
2. Can i run it in my sump or does it need to pump directly into the dt?

Any pics of how your setting yours up or helpfull links would be great.

Thanks again.

Hi @Greenstarfish03

we have officially blown by anything I would feel comfortable giving 100% advice on. Let’s bump. There’s some good uv folk around.

I don’t see a reason the UV could not be plumbed in to the sump. The mag will not push it 16 feet vertical from what I remember from mine. The uv should be after some foam, sock, or mechanical filer to avoid detrius, snails, etc getting into the housing.

hopefully we can both get some good answers.

@mastiffI see what hou mean yes the mag wont push 16 feet. If I used the mag I would be putting the uv and pump right under the dt in the cabinet not I woukd only have to push a few feet. I would worry at that height I may have too much flow. I would probably need a valve or something to control flow. Im just not sure how to configure everything.

Images so people know what Im dealing with.
