I have a 180g SPS with an 80g sump I would guess I am really around 200g of total water though after all the rock, equipment and the height I run the water level in the sump. I am looking at a 400w pentair uv and have a return on my tank of a sicce synra 7 with head height flow is 1300-1400gph.

1. is 40w really enough for 200g it looks like it is from what I am reading but want to verify
2. the flow for this unit is 943 GPH/1,574 GPH. Is there a negative to be on the higher side instead of closer to 943?

Thanks!

The higher side will kill algae/bacteria. The lower side will kill ich and the likes. Simply because the lower flow allows more time in uv exposure

Those numbers were both for the higher side. It was a higher side range, would it be better to be higher/lower or does it not matter as long as its in the range?

Would shoot for the middle

Dinos killed by 1W/3G on 300l/h.
Do the mats for your tank. If you have high wattage you can always increase the flow to reduce effects but you can’t reduce flow under manufacturers recommendations.
In a simplistic way to put it is buy bigger rather than smaller.
