Hello,
I have set up a new marine aquarium, and I am experiencing a bacterial bloom which I am given to understand is a normal occurence in a new tank. The water has been cloudy about a week now and no signs of dissipating. (I don't use any carbonator)
I am doing regular water changes, I have positioned the flows to disturb the water surface for oxidation and I am limiting the light, but it is not having much affect.
So I have heard of UV sterilisers which can resolve the cloudy water bacterial bloom issue quickly.
A few questions please:
1. Can anyone suggest one under 40USD which will work? (I am hard up for funds just now because of lockdown.)
2. Once the cloudy water is resolved, should I keep it on and if so for how long/perm?
3. Is the UV a risk to corals/inverts/pods?
4. Will this kill off beneficial algae?
Thanks
Scott
