I have a 180g display tank and a Pentair Aquatics 80 watt UV sterilizer. While I call my tax mixed reef, it is mainly fish (5 tangs, 4 wrasse, 5 clownfish). My Nitrates are 30 ppm and phosphates .35 ppm. I want start dosing NoPox; without taking the UV sterilizer totally off-line. Can I does the NoPox early morning and take the UV sterilizer offline for 6-8 hours while the bacteria populates in the live rock and Seachem matrix?

Don’t know how the uv will effect the nopox or bacteria but when I had high nitrate 60ppm I used nopox to bring it down to zero at the same time I added a bio pellet reactor and once they got to 0ppm I stopped the nopox and since then (5-6 months now) my nitrates stay between 0-5ppm. I over dosed the nopox though, I was dosing 60ml every day for a week then reduced it to 30 for a week and finally 20 for a week then I just stopped. I did get a Bactria bloom which lasted 2 days, I also got Cyanobacteria due to the unbalanced levels of phosphate and nitrates, i just left it and it soon cleared up took about 2 months, at the moment my nitrates are between 0-5 phosphate is 0.02. Oh almost forgot to mention my coral did sulk for about a week or two that was due to me over dosing, fish was fine, my system is 220g mixed with lps and softies system is pretty heavily stocked with about 25-30 fish. What I did wasn’t the right way of doing stuff but that’s what I did and work for me. Following the instructions does take a little longer but just me.
