Hello Reefers - I have a question. Is it safe to use a UV bulb in a clear quartz sleeve in an overflow compartment of a nano tank.

The reason I ask is - I recently setup a Fluval Flex 32 gallon and want to add a sterilizer. The issue is with a skimmer my return area is extremely cramped and I don't think I can even fit the smallest of inline units.

I was thinking that I buy a bulb and slip it in the sleeve in one of the overflows - like a heater.

What are the thoughts ?

Not exactly sure I’m picturing what you are proposing. You aren’t talking about those cheap Chinese made UV’s they sell on Amazon? These were/are UV units consisting of JUST the bulb and glass sleeve. If so I purchased one of those on a flyer. Don’t use

Got a pic of the unit you want to use? If its a reliable model I’m not seeing the downside.

yes - actually that was what I was thinking. I didn't want to order the chinese one and saw this .. https://www.marinedepot.com/aqua-uv-replacement-quartz-sleeve-uv-sterilizer .. and thought I could find a light that has a plug attached to slip in to the sleeve.

Naw, quite frankly you don’t wanna do that, you could win a Darwin prolly if you go that route, be safe!
...matter of fact I went against my own mandate got shocked by a off brand UV (Aquatop)...
...Really I wouldn’t spend less than a Tetra unit for FW or a Lifeguard for SW .... those brands being my minimum spend and going above those grades recommended.
