Hi I’m just wondering what kind of size is an “appropriate size” for a 125g tank + 40gal sump.
Also, would having 4 smaller ones be as effective as 1 big one? Price wise it seems very worth it to buy more smaller ones than 1 big one. Just wondering.

The sizing and wattage suggestions vary between manufacturers, but you'd prob want a good medium/large size model for your tank. Bigger the better on UV. Not sure if by 'smaller ones' you mean those crappy little 5/10w nano ones, but they are pretty much useless.

If your looking at UV to cure an Ich outbreak that's already happening - it wont do that. Its more of a preventive tool for parasites and is much more effective for algae control. Youll want to look at QT or hypo methods to resolve Ich in your DT...

I have a Lifegard Promax 55w and love it:

How big is your tank since you’re using the promax 55w? And I quarantine everything I’m just looking for extra precautionary steps since I paid 400$ for a yellow tang lol.

I have a 55w on an 80 gallon, which is major overkill but I got the large model on a black friday sale, and it will surely go on my new 90 when its ready... If I were you, id shop around that wattage. Be prepared though it's a huge body on the serious UVs - like 36 inch long with 3 inch diameter.

Yeah sounds like your doing it right, it's a great insurance option on a tank full of expensive fish. I have it safeguarding a White Tail and Borbonius, so the $250 is a no-brainer investment to me :)

I would buy the most powerful one you can fit in your system, its all about the killing power and flow rate

They tend to be quiet bulky but you can’t really have to much power within reason

I have an 80w UVC in my main system and 20w in the smaller tank running 24/7

As already said it’s a management tool, it will only kill what flows through it.
