I'm installing a Emperor Aquatics Smart UV "LITE" Sterilizer above my sump...I have the water inlet and outlet pointing down to the sump..Do I need to have the inlet/outlet pointing up for it to be running right? Or will it be fine with them pointing down?

Good question. I have never used that particular brand but I do know that UV sterilization is all about the rate at which the water flows through the sterilizer. UV takes time to kill stuff and sterilizers are designer to produce the right flow rate. I would say that if setting it up that way makes water flow through it faster, I would change it.....but you were probably already thinking the same thing :)

As long as a pump is feeding it (an the pump can handle the head pressure) you should be fine no matter which way they are facing.

With the inlet/outlet facing down water isn't going to fill the chamber before exiting out of the chamber. The glass shield that protects the bulb is designed to be cooled by water passing over it. I'd reconfigure it quick, the glass shield will heat up over time and will eventually crack = flood.
