UV Sterilizer or 'pods

I'm trying to set up tank (110 gallons) and one of the fish I'm looking into is a mandarin dragonettes, but the copepod diet. Can i still have pods and mandarin with an uv sterilizer?

The simple answer is yes. A uv even if properly sized for the aquarium and set to optimal flow rate for sterilization of things like ick will not effect higher life forms like pods on a simple pass through. The pods would have to be living in the uv unit for it to affect them.

seed it and let it mature a bit to let them reproduce and have a healthy pop for the mandarin. Good luck

So once nitrates, add pods than wait a little before adding fish?

assuming the pods have adequate food and living conditions then yes.

It may take multiple additions of pods and feed to accumulate the desired population density. Also continued additions of pods regularly to refresh that population. Dragonettes do nothing all day but hunt and eat. They can consume 1000s of pods in a day. Hopefully your dragonette will adapt to a frozen diet to supplement its diet.

algae, fish food, phyto. In a controlled environment phyto is enough in a reef tank I think that is hopeful at best.

I would just wait 6 months before adding a mandarin. At that point you won't need to add anything.

Would it be better to get a mixed jar, such as galaxy pods, or buy 4-5 jars of species-specific from algae barn, I forgot to add, that I don't have a refugium as my sump doesn't have a section for it. I could use return as a refuge and drill the acrylic for an external pump but i'd rather not

If it’s a new tank BRS did a series of the cycle its stages, the uglies and additions of pods to help things along.
