Hi all

want to add a uv sterilizer to my sump, however have limited space available and have been told in no uncertain terms that I can’t house it outside the sump.
my question is can I fix it to the top of my sump cabinet with a strong enough pump to control the water flow. I can’t u fortunately have it in a closed loop so I was looking to take the pump the water from my skimmer chamber through the uv and flow back into where my return pump is. Looking at running it more for water quality and algae control

thanks

Mine is plumbed through a manifold off the return pump and it has been working great. I purchased it to combat a dino issue and it worked great. For your setup, I would go from any one chamber straight to the return chamber though; start with the first chamber and dump it in the next or into the same.

Of course you can place it outside the sump with a suitable pump. But - should it start to leak, you can get water outside the aquarium. You can use a closed loop if you want and you can do it the way you suggest. But if you do a circut inside the sump - you will not have a good fighter against ich. In order to have a good effect in ich management with UVC - you need to have the inlet close to the bottom inside the DT.

Sincerely Lasse

Hi both thanks for the replies
my set up would be purely for Dino / Algea control not sure if I have the room to set up for ich control necessarily.
Think I may have not worded my original question clearly though, it wasNot so much about the flow of the water from chamber to chamber more a question of how to fit a uv inside the sump cabinet. Some I have read need to be upright something I would struggle to do. I have a dosing pump attached too one side wall about a 60 mm gap the other side apart from that very little space. Do the have to set up in specific way or could I attach one to the top of my sump cabinet .
Sorry this wasn’t clear before

Generally, the output just needs to be above the input to mitigate potential air bubbles from accumulating withing the UV's chamber.
