Will a 25 watt UV sterilizer have any benefit in a 250 gallon system? It's an aqua uv if that makes any difference.

I use a 15 watt Aqua Uv on my 180 total volume system.

Keeps bacterial and algae blooms away. That's about it. Parasite control, no.

If its rated at UV-C 200 to 280 nm then 25w is plenty....maybe even a little too much. I two 13watters in two different areas.

REMEMBER!!!! Anywhere the light reaches everything will die. If you expose your face for more than 5mins you will have a sunburn that will last a week.

UV-C is wicked.... Respect this light

I've had several bacterial blooms on my 10 week old system. I was advised to try the 9 watt Green Killing Machine and it worked on my Waterbox 60.2. It cleared it up in about 24 hours.

The water was looking crystal clear and I did a water change yesterday evening to wake up to another bacterial bloom. If I recall right, this is the 2nd time I've done a water change only to wake up the next day and have a bacterial bloom. Is there some correlation between the 2, and should I run the UV sterilizer continually or only when needed? Thx.

I would continue to run it.

Agree with the above....unless you are using it to treat dinos. If so it is undersized for your tank.

I run the 57 watt Aqua UV unit with about 350 gph flow in my system but I'm using it for treatment/maintenance for dinos.

Look at Page 9 for sizing.

I love these units, but I believe their literature of sizing are a little off, I would say the 80 watt unit would be more like it, look at the old emperor aquatics UV sizing watts per gallon of flow rate. I think they are more accurate for Killing Protozoans, bacteria, & algae.

As with all things, depends on what you are asking it to do. If you are looking for basic clarification (algae, bacteria, etc.) then a 25 watt UV is probably more than you need on a 250 gallon tank given required flow rates. If you want level 1 or 2 sterilization, then 25 watts is a bit undersized, though it may well still help. I’m running the TMC 110 on my 450.

Do you think I can achieve level one sterilization with a vecton600 ”(25w) for my 120g 30g sump?
