I have a Aqua UV 25 watt sterilizer I bought used today. Upon opening it up to clean and inspect it their appears to be rust on the sleeve wiping mechanism. Do I chance having this in the system knowing how toxic a small amount can be or do I remove the wiper all together? Has anyone else seen this?

I would contact the company and see if they offer a replacement part, or if something like this is covered under a warranty. They might be able to tell you when it was manufactured also.

I am not the original buyer and I would think I would have little recourse from a warranty standpoint. Based on the calcium buildup inside the unit it has sat for a while.

I would go without. I have a UV sterilizer that does not have a wiper on it. Mines the pentair 18. I take it apart every 4 to 6 months to clean it and there's usually nothing to clean, it just doesn't get very dirty.

Completely disassembled wiper, definitely appears to be rust. Wiper removed.

If you can leave it out, I would. The crystal sleeve should be removable. You’ll have to gently remove calcium deposits from it from time to time.

Beware of the turbo twist uv sterilizer. It’s rusts due to the metal sleeve.
