I am going to be setting up a red Sea 525 xl tank and was wondering if the 40w UV sterilizer should be set to take water right from the refugium and into the return? Thank you for any help

When I didn't run a UV off a manifold I just took water from the skimmer area and returned it to the same area.

Does the XL series have a fuge? I think they start in the XXL series.

In my reefer, I pull water from the skimmer chamber, and release it on top of the bubble-stripping cascade (I can't think of how to explain what this is, basically the wall between the skimmer and return chamber).

I have a 75 gallon tank with a 40W sterilizer with a flow meter in line. Both the pump and return are located in the return section of my sump.

I did it this way because I didn’t want any macro algae or other fuge funk going through the UV and flow meter because I don’t want to clean it too often. I also didn’t want the return earlier in the sump because I didn’t want to reprocess water thought fuge and skimmer.

I personally don't think it matters where you pull the water from, and where it returns to....as long as the water is being pulled after some sort of mechanical filtration (if possible). The clearer the water, the more effective the UV will be.
