Hey everyone, I recently purchased an aqua uv 25watt sterilizer. Problem is, I dont know which pump I should set it up with. Should I have a small pump in my protein skimmer section for the inlet and have it drop into my return section? Or should I have it connected to my main return pump which is a 1100 gph ecosmart pump... im confused. Please help! My tank is a 100 gallon reef tank

Put it in line with your main pump. The sterilizer should use smaller tubing and have a design inside to slow the flow down.

25w Sterilizer set up should be:
300-550gph for Algea and Bacteria
55-90gph for killing Protozoa

I'd go with a small pump in the inlet section (like a RIO 400) with the outlet of the UV filter in the return section. That way you aren't double UV'ing the water before it returns to the tank.

You could use the return pump but you'd be short-cycling some of the UV treated water since some of the output of the UV will go right back into the UV without going back to the main tank first.

I wouldn't add an additional pump - just tee off your return or even your drain line and let gravity feed it. Use a ball or gate valve to dial in the flow through it. The less pumps you run the better. Less things to break and less heat transferred to the water.
