Uv Sterilizer, What am i looking at?

I inherited a coralife uv sterilizer from my brother. I see two parts and what seems to be an input and out put. How does water move through it? Am I missing a pump? Also how can I tell if the bulb needs replacing?

yes u need a pump or attach thru your return line..certain amount of flow is required for certain things see attached

UV Bulbs should be replaced annually at least.
