I run one periodically if needed.. good for quickly clearing up water born algae or bacterial outbreaks.

Purchased one after my last velvet outbreak that took 3/4 my fish. Like mentioned before, get a good one. Run the flow slow if your concerned with pathogens. Works great for me. Yes ultra clear water and not a sign of ich or velvet for more than a year and I have added new fish. I dose Vinegar and no issue keeping my nutrients low so it’s not killing all the good bacteria.

Thats the plan. Nice and slow.

The key is getting an oversized one and run it slow (about 200 gph). I run mine 24/7 and havent lost a fish since. Downside was it heated up my water pretty good where I had to buy a chiller...I dont have a mandarin goby but I seem to have a nice copepod population, I see a decent amount in my filter sock whenever I change them out.
