Hello all. I have recently been having some hair algae problems, and have been looking to buy a UV sterilizer. My problem is, I am running a canister filter, not a sump. Does anybody have any recommendations for a sterilizer that I could use?

A UV sterilizer for eradicating hair algae?

I have never heard that it did.

Manual removal and herbivores are pretty much the proven methods. Algicide use is another, maybe less favored approach to dealing with hair algae.

Same here. It has an effect on certain kinds of Dinos, but that's all that I know of. And those Dinos are actually in the water column. For something bound to rocks and/or sand, it won't do much.....

I run a TMC Vectron 600 on a 40G, only because I got it cheap off of eBay. It uses a 25w UV-C bulb. My canister is a Biomaster 600. I would look at one of those in line refugiums before a UV unit. Something like the Reef Octopus Light Reactor LR-150 or a Tunze unit.

I can turn off the UV & really not tell any difference to the tank.
