Ok so I just got a UV sterilizer from a friend, but it is a home unit. Is this going to work the same? Looks just the same but is made of stainless steel. Could it be harmful to use? I plan to clean everything and run it before I actually hook it up to the tank. I thought I'd ask here before doing anything though. TIA

I don't think a UV is very helpful in this situation, but my bigger concern is that if it is not made for salt water, that it may not hold up. If stainless steel contacts the water, only some types are OK.

Ok thanks for the advice I'll be giving this back to my buddy and will get an aquarium type. And I know using uv sterilizer in helping remove bacteria and helping fight against diseases is a bit controversial but thought I'd try it. I've dealt with several outbreaks in the past 2 years and have been fallow now for 9 weeks. Thought I'd try it out and get one before I start adding fish in again.
