I am looking for a uv sterilizer to add to a new build i am setting up. System will be roughly 90-110 gallons total volume. I am very torn on which route to go. Are the coralife 36w sterilizers any good? Smart uv from brs is a little pricey but maybe this is an area i don't need to cheap out on? What about the jebao 36w, looks like a coralife knockoff. We are talking significant price differences here. My budget is whatever it needs to be, but the more i spend, the longer it takes to get everything up and running.

From my experience, Coralife stuff is not the best stuff to buy. This is just from personal experience way back. I would buy a better unit which costs a little more that will outlive and outperform the Coralife unit. I also would never buy anything jebao, they just rip off and copy designs from other manufactures. Some people use their stuff that lasts, others have their stuff that breaks in a matter of weeks. You pay for what you get.

This is a unit that would work for your setup:

Like said above if you want something really works long term, get a good brand like Pentair. They cost a lot more but they last almost forever. Also I would get something around 40W. /5W to me seems a little under rated in my experience.

My two cents worth on having UV units over the years and recently having a local friends experience with the coralife unit is this, the coralife unit is cheaply made and has a record of corrosion issues long term. This may not be indicative of every coralife unit, but it's still a issue.

In search for a UV unit for my current build, I came across pond UV units. One in particular was the Danner pondmaster. Danner is a well know manufacturer of utility pumps for the hobby (Mag series) and have been around for decades.

A local pond shop had them in stock and I purchased a 10 watt unit to try out on my system. Well built and easy to take apart. Replacement bulbs are easy to get. At $100 dollars, wasn't breaking the bank.

It works very well keeping my water crystal clear and I've had it now for several years without failure.

I would recommend the Danner pondmaster UV's.
