I have a red sea Max S 650 and I am trying to figure out how to properly size and plumb a UV sterilizer. I have heard that you want to direct connect it to the return so it gets 100% of everthing going through the sump. How do I do this and keep flow up at the same time? Need some help here.

I have my uv connected after my return pump, also I installed a flow meter to see if I have right flow needed.
In the uv outlet is connected to tank

It probably depends on what your trying to achive eg clarity, pest control or just general safety net.
I have mine pumping water through from mid section of sump, through the uv then out into return pump section. My use for one (along with other remedies) was dinoflagellates which have cleared up so no longer use it.

I watched that already. It says direct

So if you are running to battle parisites how do you keep the flow up enough? Even a large uv only recommends like 350gph and on a 650 that is only like 2x turnover an hour

I think the only way to achieve the correct through flow and turnover is to run more than one steriliser Or have one correctly sized for the aquarium. Which for bigger tanks isnt always an option. You have the choice of sticking with the recomended through flow or the recommended turn over.
keep in mind that even if it doesnt zap all the pests it will still be helping out by reducing their numbers and giving your fish a fighting chance and hopefully build a good immunity.
