Is there’s such a thing as overkill? I recently purchased a 40W AQUA sterilizer for $100. It would be going on a 75g with 10g sump? Do I use it or put it up for sale?

People who use UV are trying to either lower pest type algae’s in the water column or for parasites control.

So if that’s your goal, I’d use it, if it fits.

I doubt that’s overkill.

Thanks just wasn’t sure if there was a downside to running a large sterilizer. Just thought they were made to specifically use what they say wattage for gallon ratio
i am not aware of a downside to the UV sterilizer (other than cost / electricity). unless you don't want water with plankton and such to die. higher flow just kill algae, lower flow kills everything. just make such you follow the instructions so the light doesn't go dry. also, the bulbs need to be changed annually.
