I am looking to get a UV for my Red Sea Max E 170. What wattage should I be looking at?

This one looks interesting. Any good?

I have a smaller version of this one in a 15 gallon. Works great for me. I have it hooked up to an apex so that it turns off if my tank gets above a certain temp.

Does it have to be mounted vertically or can it be on its side?

For fully submersible ones I don't think it matters. For the external ones, you may need to check the manual. There may be issues if there is a bubble between the light and the quartz sleeve or something.

Edit: the model I have can work in any orientation but only fits vertically in the back chambers of the flex 15.

I was thinking of putting the submersible one in my sump but there's not enough water depth for it to be vertical.

Check the directions that came with yours, but I think they can go in how ever you can get them to fit, if they are submersible.

Hey @tmccaff

Did you ever get a uv for your e-170? I have the same tank and am looking for one.

If you have one, how do you like it, and is it quiet?
