I'm looking to buy a UV sterilizer and my LFS said my best bet would be a Aqua UV 25 watt with wiper. I know nothing about them so I'm turning to you guys professional opinion. So far I've not been steered wrong with this forums opinions. Here is a link to the sterilizer I'm looking at http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001E...Y340_QL65&keywords=Aqua+UV+25+Watt+sterilizer
Now a couple questions. I need to make sure #1 that I'm not over doing it with this model or under doing it. I notice a chart about GPH etc etc and not sure what to make of it. So please help me. I do have some coral and live rock and plan to get more. My aquarium is a 75 gallon with 12 gallon refugium and 10 gallon sump so I'm right at 100 gallons. Can everyone please help me make the right decision. I'm wanting it for several reasons. I've been fighting ick and lost two new fish over it "no room for quarantine tank" so I was told that a really good UV Sterilizer will help fight off this pesty bugger. Plus of course green hair algae. I heard it also helps with the spread of unsightly alage. So if you can help me pick the right Sterilizer it would be greatly appreciated. Yes I've been doing water changes and everything in my power to help with this problem. My other fish are doing pretty good, those were Newly added and obviously we're stressed so ick will latch onto a stressed host in no time, in which it did! I cant add any more fish until I somewhat get this ick thing under control. Please don't tell me to get a quarantine tank, I know it's best but out of the question. I know it makes it hard on me and can cause problems but it is what it is. If you have other questions about my tank or equipment I'll be glad to answer.
Thanks in advance!

I purchased an Aquatop UVCP-13 and couldn't be happier with it. This unit knocked out a bacteria bloom I had in my 180 in less than four hours.

It's an all in one unit, including the pump, so I just had to place it in the sump and plug it in, no need to run additional plumping or mess with getting the proper flow through the unit.

I don't believe anyone in the hobby really believes that a UV will do much of anything to an existing disease problem. With your current ich issues you will have no choice but running the tank fallow for an extended period of time.

Looking beyond that they _may_ assist in preventing issues, or may help in reducing the severity of future issues.

I personally believe there are good reasons to have a UV (I am thinking about getting another after going without for almost 10 years). But thoses reasons do not include disease control. Water clarity is probably the most to be gained, and possibly a bit towards algae control.
