V. Snails?

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out what’s growing in my tank. Pictures are below. One is of the back wall that has a bunch of white tube things. I was told early on by my LFS they are not Vermatide snails so I left them. I recently came across a post that said they might be.

The second picture is a large tube that expels some kind of long slender tentacles at night.

Would love a second opinion.


The tentacles I see at night coming from the stationary single large white tube remind me of the tentacles from the pest ID page for spaghetti works. I didn’t think spaghetti worms were stationary or made a tube though. Not terribly familiar with them.

I cant really see them too well but my assumption is Spirorbid Worms, see below.

Do spaghetti worms create a shell on the rock? Regarding the other pic.

@ReefHunter006, I dont think Spaghetti Worms have shells. Most of what I have read say they are beneficial detritovores though. I definitely have both in my tank and they havent caused any issues. Changing your feeding regime will affect their growth.

I would say the 1st one is a spaghetti worm. They tend to cover their bodies with sand from the tank.
I agree with @ReeferWarrant on the second one. From the pic, I'd guess Spirorbid Worms. You can just scrape them off of the glass.

I've got both, and don't worry about either.

Thanks, it deffinetly looks like it is covering itself with sand. I managed to snap a quick video.

Spaghetti worms use those tentacles to pull in detritus and uneaten food, which they eat, and sand, which they use to build a tube.

Nice scavengers to have around!
