I have read several threads on vacation feeding but also several threads on feeding certain types of fish multiple times a day. I will be out of town for 4 days next month and am debating on whether or not I need to pick up an AFS to tie into my Apex for while I am gone. I currently have the following fish in my tank and the main one I am concerned with is the Anthias.

  • 1 Fathead Anthias
  • 2 Ocellaris Clowns
  • 1 Diamond Goby
  • 1 Spotted Mandarin
  • 1 Foxface
  • 1 Kole Tang
  • 1 Flame Angel
  • 1 Coral Beauty
  • 1 Cleaner Shrimp
The tank has very little algae (carbon dosing) so I am planning on a fresh sheet of nori before I leave. I also have a refugium and a pretty good pod population that keeps the mandarin fat and happy. I am not worried about ATO or dosing as I have a 32 gallon brute as my ATO reservoir and a Kalk reactor controlled by my apex.

Will these particular fish need additional feeding while I am gone?

If they are well fed normally, then going a few days without food will be fine.

Thank You. That is what I thought but I kept reading that "active fish like anthais" need multiple feedings per day.
And whle some fish need multiple feedings for their general care, if they are getting them regularly will handle a few days without.

4 days shouldn't be much of an issue. If anything arrange someone to stop in once on maybe day 2 and feed a cube of frozen. What I do prior to vacation is I fill one of those weekly pill organizers with frozen foods. That way tank sitters can't get confused on how much to feed the tank or how often.
