Vacation Feeding? Have you used this?

Has anyone or would anyone recommend using this in their aquariums?

How long will you be gone? When I'm gone for a week I don't bother having the fish fed while gone. Not worth risking the stability of the tank because a friend or a feeder like that going great wrong. The fish will be fine for that amount of time without being fed.

Ouch, no food for eight days? Do you not feed your cat or dog for that period while you're away? How about yourself?

While I know I'm not comparing apples to apples here, most fishes are eating food all day long, constantly grazing the reef. I suppose with minimal fish stocking and lots of natural food sources you could get away with it, but I wouldn't recommend it in most tanks.

Several of my clients tanks in offices have had major issues from not being fed over a weekend. Fish start to be more aggressive defending their territory when food is not around, resulting in badly beaten fish or death.

I agree to not put any type of feeding block into a tank. However there are some affordable dry food auto feeders out there, or better yet you can pre-portion an all-in-one frozen food like LRS and stick in your freezer for a tank sitter to toss in once or twice per day.

I keep the appropriate amount of fish food per a day each in separate frozen marked zip lock bag. This way the person thats helping you can't overfeed your tank.

thats what I am doing this time. Only difference is i found some small plastic containers to use rather than bags.

Ive made it easier and mixed a ton of frozen together and placed them into an silicone icecube tray. 1/2 a cube per day feeding

I use a rondomatic circular feeder when I go on vacation. It only dispenses pellets reliably, but that will work for a week. Never had a problem with it. Another great feed I've used is the Ehiem feeder with two sections. Very reliable, but again I don't use flake in case humidity binds it.
