We're leaving Saturday for a weeks vacation. I have a friend that will be feeding my clownfish. I'd like to make it as easy as possible. I feed frozen food but I have freeze dried brine shrimp. Will feeding the FD food only be ok for the week?

Thanks!

When I left for 10 days, I portioned out frozen into like those plastic jello shot cups and left in the freezer, so all they had to do was take it out put a little rodi water in the cups let it defrost and then feed the tank.;)

Excellent idea! (I have those Jell-O shot cups! Imagine that) [emoji12]

Thanks so much!!

I can't see why not as long as he does not over feed. I wonder if you could pre measure each day for him. I went on vacation once and my brother was supposed to feed each day. He did not show up for four days and he decided to dump all the food I had pre measured for each day on the fifth. Need less to say all my fish were dead when I got home. This was twenty years ago and my system could not handle the mass of food.

Holy Crap! Yes, I'll pre-measure. Thanks!

+1 to portion it out. Also, if it is just a week, they will be fine to be fed maybe twice. I'm always try to keep my eyes on worst case scenarios. I just give my tank a good feeding before I leave.

That is exactly what I just did, except I made 60 of these cups so my wife did not have to mess with it while I am away at work. Each is a little different with Mysis, Brine Shrimp, some chopped clams, krill, some frozen algae concoction for my Tangs, little flake and some homemade garlic juice....I've been away for 9 days now and all is well!

Healthy, established fish in an established tank can go a week without feeding. I have done it several times. It is better if someone feeds them, and the freeze dried only would work fine if your sitter doesn't over feed.

If you want to feed frozen, I use the Innovative Marine defroster. It mounts to the side of the tank with a magnet and I place it in front of a return line to break apart the food which spreads it all over the tank for the fish and corals. The best part is all someone has to do is drop a frozen cube inside and thats it. Works great.

I just got this for the same reason and now use it exclusively its awesome. No more thawing dumping rinsing etc. just drop em in and your done :)

It really is a great idea from IM. I put my cubes in little containers and all my friend had to do was take out of freezer and drop it in. You can adjust the amount that it dispenses so feedings last longer with less waste.
