Left for 6 days this morning. Apex sent my phone a tank heat alarm. Heat jumped up to 86 pretty quick and was 83-86 for about 5 hours before it cooled off. Apex has it back down to 79 but now I’m manual heater on/off from my phone for the next week until I figure out the problem.

Please tell me I didn’t just nuke the tank?!

Has 5 big nems, few big tangs, couple big angels, and a little sunburst anthias (my wife will have my head if this one gets hurt).

That's right at the borderline. As a precaution is there anyone in the area that can check on the tank? If there is loss, time could be of the essence to save the rest.

How is the heater normally controlled? Does the Apex turn it on and off based on an Apex temperature probe, or does the heater operate independently of the Apex?

Nope, I’m sol on this one. Just gotta cross my fingers, put it outta my mind for 1 vacation, and sweat bullets when I get home and check.

Heater has its own temp control and thermometer but as secondary precaution, I have the Apex set to kill power to heater if over 80 and the Apex has its own thermometer. Clearly something happened to both for this to be my current situation. We have had power issues since the Texas freeze and our power has popped on/off a few times over the past few days.
