Vacation paranoia, thoughts of my prep?

So I started my nuvo 30L about 6 weeks ago and will be taking a couple 5-7 day vacations this summer with my kids.

I have the ability to program my lights via the app (hd primes), ATO last about 14 days at a time, EcoTech mp10s on each side of tank on a custom schedule with 2 10 minute feed windows at 11am and 7pm coinciding with an auto feeder dropping food at the same time. My skimmer, reactor and return pumps will all stay on 24/7. Reefkeeper lite mainly keeping heater in check currently. Is there anything I’m missing or forgetting? I would replace filte floss and do a water change the day before any vacation.



Only thing im not happy about is the feeder (eheim), I am just sitting it on the edge of the tank, and letting food fall through the top netting. The food stays on the surface too long for my liking and gets pushed to the sump. Also the food that does drop is all hitting the sand es too quick and once in the sand my 2 clowns (only fish at the moment) are unhappy. I’m afraid a few days of this could cause a problem.



Am am I being paranoid?

I would do the water change 2 days before you leave and no other changes if everything is programed to run how you want it to run.

Will the feeder fit over the middle chamber in the back right over the return pump, place it there and see if you get a better response from the fish with the food coming out the returns.

Two little fishies has a ring that floats on top of the water that stays in a certain spot as it is attached to a magnet on the glass via a cord. The food will stay within the ring (versus getting sucked into the overflow). As the food absorbs water, they will then begin sinking and can be distributed via your pumps.

Having lost a tank back in 2007 due to vacation and Enron I can say one thing that would help you is to find a family member or trust worthy friend that you can call in the case of an emergency. That or have someone stop by daily to just take a quick look to make sure and send you a email update. In my case it the vacation was also a family reunion of sorts so everyone was with me and we couldn't catch the AC going out due to constant brown outs. So having somebody you can call or stop by should be able to reduce the failure window substantially which may give you a piece of mind.

Oh - only other thing I would recommend is that if you haven't already done so document what you do on a daily basis and what to do in an emergency. That way if they can't reach you they will have steps to follow.

This is what I do with my IM40 and IM10. We're always going to be paranoid in this hobby but I think you've got all the basis covered.
