I am going on vacation soon and I don't think my skimmer cup will be large enough for the time I am gone. Is there a way to modify the cup so I can have it overflow into a bottle? I was thinking of drilling towards the top of the cup and sealing a tube in that would go to a bottle, would this work? The skimmer is a sc-s 150; it's just a basic cone skimmer.

Thanks,

Wesley

I don't see why that wouldn't work, a lot of them come that way. Here's a picture of mine.

How long will you b gone? You may want to skim a little drier during that time.

That's a great idea. But what happens if the skimmer decides to overflow and drain your tank... There is nothing there to stop the water from overflowing. Speaking from experience here as I've done that with a setup just like that. Now I have a ball valve on the skimmer cup drain line and I just open it up every few days to drain the cup into an orange juice container.

I'm in Smyrna and I would be happy to come by and check things out for you if you would like while you are gone. Just shoot me a PM and we can meet up.

Wesley-

You should seriously consider having one of us come by at the 4 day mark and check on things. Call me if you want me to.

Thats a good question. But what about the food? How do you feed them when your away like that? Thats the problem I am going to have.

I use an auto feeder for one feeding of pellets per day and a local reefer for the other feeding each day of frozen. Joys of being in a great club!

Thanks guys. I modified the cup. I have thought about the overflow bottle flooding if the skimmer decides to go crazy, after I did it.lol. I have two float switches for my ato water but only have one going right now. I have the other float switch in place to be used as a safety switch but I can't figure out how to get it to turn the channel off if the first switch fails. I have a rke with net if someone can maybe walk me through that. I have a family member that said they would stop by but he does not know the first thing about reef setups. If I cant get him over before i leave to show him how things work I might give you a buzz chris.
