So tonight during my weekly water change and substrate vacuuming the vacuum line popped out of the filter sock.
The water just pored out of the stand. Through the floor and flooded in my cellar. Am I the only one who has had this happen?

I am a member of the wet carpet club.... as probably everyone here is... whether they admit it or not. Things like this happen.

I was doing maintenance on my return pump in the basement and had closed off valves to on the overflows to keep the display from draining.... Great idea right? Seemed like one until I got done servicing the pump and turned it back on... I watched amazed that the sump was draining until I realized like an idiot that I had not opened the valves for the overflows.... by the time it dawned on me.... oh about 15 gals of saltwater overflowed the display tank upstairs and began falling on my head in the basement.... DOH! Yes... we have all had moments we are not proud of...that have caused some floors to get wet.... and maybe more..... ;)

As far as I am concerned, as long as you learn from the mistake... and it does not happen again...and nothing burns down and no one gets hurt.... it just makes for a good story... at some point in the future....

Had a tank crack after being set up for a week. Approximately 40 gallons of salt water drained over night and was still draining when I woke up. Saved all the fish, but my hardwood was on the edge of ruined. I rented a sander and refinished it. It isn't perfect, but it's a 40 year old heart pine floor. I wasnt going to just rip it up and replace it. Trees dont grow like they used to.

If you vacuum the sand while barefoot, you'll feel the water on your feet and know right away if something's wrong!

Not when you're standing on a chair and the line is below you inside the stand/sump and the water is going out the back side of the stand.
It was definitely a oh crap moment.

Short people problems... the rim of my tank is 5' exactly, or nose high. Great viewing height, horrible maintenance height.

Sorry to hear that. Wet floor club isn’t fun. My biocube 32 was originally on the stock biocube stand. My wife and I were watching tv, and for no reason the stand literally exploded into a million pieces and the tank hit the floor and flooded our place. That tank was cycling at the time with live rock from the ocean. We couldn’t get the smell out of the carpet, honestly we had to move. We moved a month later. Don’t trust biocube stands is the moral here.
