Is there anyway to prevent losing substrate when vacuuming? I'm thinking a piece of screen might do the trick although I risk the chance of it clogging up and not vacuuming at all. Has anyone had any success with this or similar method?

Wade if you put an old clean leg off a pair of panty hose on the discharge end of you sphion hose it will catch any you loose the rinse it and put it back.

Now wait a minute. How is that going to cost a lot of money? I thought unless it cost a lot of money, in the hobby, it was not any good.

Happy Easter folks
