So stag is just there in case people want to add to it BUT i looked at some forums and it seems acropora valida species are fairly easy too. Here's the problem. When I went online there seems to only be 1 variety called tri colour so that got ke wondering what kinds of valida species do r2r members have?

could be the same species in different colors. Or could be stinging and killing the parts that touch unseen
Ive had ones within a millimeter of each other without issue, but ive also had ones a half inch away sting one another.
Its not uncommon for people to have colonies fall into other colonies and both completely die overnight. Or one dies and the other nothing happens. Its all very dependent on the variety/ duration/ situation.

@GHOSTLY

look for stuff like ORA red planet, Oregon tort, pearlberry, etc

corals that have a name that’s been around for a while rather than a “trade name” ala ‘ultra rainbow tenuis’

Stuff like what Ora has had been around long enough that It’ll be very hardy

Look for common names that have been around for a long time?

Here's the problem I'm facing. Common names for example red dragon, jawbreaker, red planet some of these ones seem harder to csre for. How do I know which one would be easier by looking at it

more or less. Ora pearlberry is Ora pearlberry so you’re not going to get something called “Ora pearlberry” from a reputable vendor which isn’t the Ora aquacultured coral.

same sort of thing goes for red planet, miagi tort, Oregon tort, red dragon, etc.

technically all of these coral names have trade names which have become the common name fore them. Basically go for acros that have have been around for a while. In other words. Go for the above corals I mentioned.

there are other OG acros that’ve been in the hobby as long. I just don’t know them lol

Thanks! In short go for the oldest, most common names that people have had for 10+ years?

red dragon is a known strain. Jawbreaker is a “class” of shroom.

red planet is another strain that’s been around forever and originally came from ORA. Thus, get a frag of ORA red planet, pearlberry, Oregon tort, etc. you get an acro that is hardier than an acro that’s fresh into aquaria.

you’ll still need to maintain stable parameters and what not. But you’ll have a little more wiggle room

I mean homewreaker not jawbreaker. Would a local hobbiest work?

homewrecker is another one that’s been around a decent amount of time. But it’s still pretty darn expensive so I’m personally not going to get any for quite a while. Cost of a decent sized frag vs chance it won’t make it…not worth it for me.

and yeah, local hobbyists are a good source of frags for a reasonable cost. Some will even trade for frags. Just depends on the individual.

other than that some online vendors will have those strains available. And because say, red planet for example, has been around for a while, it’s not nearly as much as home wrecker or Walt Disney.

jason Fox had red planet available last time I looked for something like $60 for a 1” frag. Live aquaria has pearlberry available every so often and they don’t charge a ton for a decent frag.

really it’s just being patient and looking around.

but you got this man!
