Does anyone know if valonia bubble algae can go dormant and be dried out? I have a coral qt, whete 45 days went by with no bubble algae, and then on the 45th day, the a day or so after (I can't remember if it was a day or a couple but it was probably a couple) I put in a used filter bag from an lfs tank that had been dried out for a while. Within a few days bubble algae come out of no where. It suprised me if it took 45 days after the 2 coral went in for bubble algae to appear if the tank was set up with all clean equipment and water. So I was curious if bubble algae has taken that long to show up for others, or if it's possible to come from some sort of spore like period on a filter bag.

Let's see if we can get some eyes on this please

How big are the bubbles? If its really from spore, they should still be tiny after a few days. IMO more likely it was just cooking in the tank for those 45 days and finally went exponential. Bubble algae always sneaks up on you. By the time you notice, its everywhere already.

It was just weird because I would have thought it would have popped up on the frag sooner than that. The bubbles were not big. I typically scrub the skeleton of lps (it was an acan) with a coarse sponge before hand too, so if there was one, it would have popped during the scrub and dip (after which the coral is rinsed). I really don't know a huge amount about the lifecycle of this algae. If anyone has any links to papers on their life cycle I will gladly read them!
