Well I think some of y'all already know about my daughters upcoming surgery. She's having surgery to put a plate in her skull, because of the plates and soft spot forming together to early. Her surgery is early tomorrow morning. She'll be in Vanderbilt for atleast a week, and well be staying in Nashville the whole time. I just wanted to give some of the people we've talked to an update. Today was her pre op and she's good for surgery in the mornin around 6am. Ill post on here as soon as we hear from the doctors in the morning after surgery. I wanna say thank you to everyone that has welcomed us into the club. We've really enjoyed coming to meetings and we loved the frag swap.

I also took some pictures of my tank right before we left. Emma absolutely loves looking at the coral and fish so it means alot to me. Ill be gone for a day or two before I can run home to top off, but I already got my RO water ready to go. If anyone has any tips for being gone a day or two let me know.

Hope the surgery goes well, Vanderbilt is a great hospital. Im gone often during the weekends and I use a ATO and a reef octo timer for my lights, does the job nicely when Im away. Just test your levels before you leave it for a few days to make sure things are good.

Best of luck to you and your daughter.

Hope for a quick and painless surgery and a fast recovery.

God bless.

My wife and your wife have talked a lot about this and all I have to say is your daughter is in the best hand we have been through 19 surgerys and almost all of them were at Vandy it will be just fine if you need anything just call your wife has my wife's no.

I think we've got everything we need, but thank you :)

And thank you gain everyone.

I think my next investment will be an ATO. I get tired of topping off my tank.

I will pray for you and your family to make it throught this tough time. Hope everything goes well.

aww wow! I'm new to the forum, 26 years old, but have an auto-immune disease called scleroderma.. so I am familiar with how much support helps and what it must mean to parents. I watched my parents age so much alongside me and my treatment. I know I'm new, but I'll be praying for you, your wife, your daughter, the other members here, and your tank :-) I have seen some amazing people on this site so far! wow!

Regarding the ATO..

My boyfriend was able to DIY rigg his own ATO with a spare glass tank and a really old pump one of his friends dumped on him (that he almost threw away, but I fished out and stored JUST IN CASE.. especially since it still worked!) and hose. At least I think that's all he used. I just know he didn't buy anything. I'll ask him what he did tomorrow and ask him to sketch it out (he was an engineering major, so he is good with his "technical drawing" skills) and try to post it tomorrow night. The way he has it working is that if the water level in the final stage of the refugium gets below a certain point, RODI water flows into the refugium and stops at another point. If, for whatever reason (fuse is blown, electricity goes out, snail gets too curious and blocks flow in equipment, etc.), the water level in that final stage of the refugium gets PAST a certain water level, it gets drained back to the spare glass tank to prevent it from flooding.

Again, thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Thank you so much Melissa. This has been tough on us mostly because we're young parents, I'm only 21 and Kaitlin is 18. We're taking things one step at a time and its so stressful, but we know she's in good hands.

We're sitting here waiting on her to get called back for surgery right now :/

More updates as we hear more

Just spoke to the Dr and everything went well! Well be able to go see her once they get her to the PICU in a hour and a half.
