Just got my first exquisite wrasse from Vanuatu, its gorgeous! Glad I picked him up. Just wanting to share a pic of him but also wondering is it a super Male? And how shy are they suppose to be?

I picked up a Vanuatu exquisite about a month ago... it kept it’s beautiful colors (more yellows than yours) for about 2 weeks...now it looks like any other exquisite wrasse

I. Gonna look for 2 female exquisite to see if he keeps his color

Probably not a good idea as they ate likely to turn male which will cause fights, getting different species of flasher wrasses which will co habit with him is a better idea, as they will still cause him to flash and maintain his colour

Terminal male. Should be decently outgoing and always out and about once settled in.

Not advisable. More here: https://www.reef2reef.com/ams/pairing-wrasses-thats-not-how-any-of-this-works.3/

Right; additional single Cirrhilabrus (fairy) males of other species is a better plan, provided you choose appropriate species.

Thanks for advice, Hunter... I hope to get him colored up again.
Not sure if you remember, but about 5 yrs ago while you were in NY/Ct, to speak at some local clubs, you came to my home to see my 40 wrasses in a 450g tank.

Hey Alfie! I remember you well, and I was happy to notice last week you'd made the jump over here. Good to hear from you!

Where did u get this vanuatu fish from ? I ask because fish rarely come in from there. I am seeking a vanuatu melanopus clownfish and whoever you got that wrasse from -may have a source....

This is the first time seeing one from Vanuatu, went looking for a radiant wrasse, when I saw the exquisite I jumped on it, wasnt cheap bit wasnt crazy expensive either.

That’s where I also got mine! Juan gets some interesting fish!
Awesome , yes he gets really nice fish at good prices, I'm getting a regal angel from him in a fee weeks. Did you see the pink/ red elegance coral they had in the lps tank ?

I am not an expert of wrasses in general but I have had a Exquisite Fairy for the last 18 months. I have tried to narrow down where my wrasse is from all these time. I think my is from Vanuatu or Indonesia. I do not think your wrasse is from Vanuatu. Specifically, I think the red face indicated that he is from Indian Ocean or Africa coast.
The best I can some up with, regarding Exquisite Fairy from Vanuatu, is that they are all have yellow on their dorsal fins at rest (not excited state). While it is not advisable to hand all our ID on one characteristic, I think if you look up images of Exquisite from Indian Ocean and Africa, you will find that they all have red face and those that are from Central and Eastern Pacific does not.

Here are images of my Exquisite, both in normal state and excited state. You will like him in your tank. Mine is very out going, and flashes all the time, even if he is the smallest of my wrasses, even smaller than most of my Flasher wrasses. I don't think my wrasse reach full coloration of a terminal male yet. Still he is very beautiful.
