In my system I have a Varios-4 feeding my return line, and a Varios-2 feeding a separate manifold. The 4 discharges through a short 8" section of 3/4" tubing then into hard piping. The 2 does the same thing, but it's 1/2" tubing into 1/2" PVC.

The problem I'm having is the barbed fitting comes in 2 pieces, but the only way I can see to use it is with it in the top of the 3/4" barbed fitting. Which looking at the pictures is what you're supposed to do. However it very loosely fits in there, no way to snap it in or secure it. Am I supposed to glue them together with PVC glue?

Thanks!

Wow, just bought the Varios 2 and they still don't include instructions on how to connect the small barbed fitting to the larger one. They have no FAQ or support area on their site, and haven't responded to the question I posted using the form on their site. So far, very unimpressed with Reef Octopus support.

As others on this thread, I'm very suspicious of just using PVC glue, it is not a tight fit...Any reports on how it held up?

@Fezbearer, what do you mean by using ratchet clamps? You mean to hold the pieces while they are being glued?

They are talking about the ratchet hose clamps I believe. I believe that PVC glue should work. you will not need any clamps to to hold the pieces together, in fact the fusion process should be very quick. Glue both pieces and push together and a 1/4 turn. one smooth movement. wait 24 hrs before use to gas off.

I saw on a YouTube video where they just put the 3/4s piece in the pump then attach that to the hose and clamp. I'm glad the pvc cement held up but I'm having the same problem and think it's not so good that you are supposed to glue that piece in? Why not make both pieces have lips at the top so any piece can be attached to the screw on lid securely.
