Varios pump as external leaks

I’m using a Varios 2 as a saltwater mixing station pump. BRS says internal or external use. It leaks between the connector-male fitting and the housing. The exploded parts diagram doesn’t show a gasket or o-ring. I had added Teflon tape, but it leaked. I was going to add more tape, but I can tell it’s still going to leak.

Are these pumps really not for external applications, am I to buy my own gaskets?

Well, it shouldn't leak internally as well. Something's off. More investigation needed.

I added more Teflon tape and ensured everything was nice and tight. No leak. Maybe I was too cheap on the tape initially, or on these injection molded parts - should I even be using tape?
