Setting up my new system soon and wanted to go with a DC return pump. I'm torn between the Vectra M1 and the reef octo Varios pumps. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. 65 gallon with a 20l sump.

I have the Varios and the feature I like best is that it is APEX Ready right out of the box, just need to buy the cable separate. Great pump, doesn't have all the modes that the Vectra does but is that really worth the price, not for me when I can just use my APEX. In order to have simple single push button feed and water change modes I would also have to purchase the WMX, not thanks. The Varios has all the same DC pump characteristics as the Vectra; quiet, slow start, low power draw, power full, control speed, well built. Also includes several fittings so you can hook it up to whatever plumbing you have right out of the box without having to go back to the hardware store.

Thanks for the reply! I'm really starting to lean towards the Varios. It seems like it would be perfect for my application. Plus I can save $150 lol. I'm not currently using an Apex, but I may go for one in the future.

It's a great pump and totally worth it.

Do you think the Varios 2 will be enough flow for my 65? I'm upgrading from a 40b with a mag 5 pump. Just want to make sure. At some point I'd like to plumb in a manifold for my reactor.

I had the older version of the Varios6, RODC 5500, and it's a great pump. I don't really understand why you'd want all of the modes of the Vectra.

It's not so much that I want all the extra modes. I really have no use for them. A lot of my equipment is Ecotech and I like the idea of being able to control everything from my phone on my reeflink. I'm not really considering the Vectra at this point. I'm gonna go with the Varios

I have the RODC 3500 in my Skimmer and it is a great pump quite and powerful. When I first got the skimmer i was shocked on the weight of the pump, locks and feels well built and I can't say I have heard anyone have a problem with them. I think the only thing that changed was the controller, so it could be hooked up to Apex and the pumps are the same just renamed.

I've got some videos on YouTube and a thread here in the coralvue section on the varios6. I like the pump, dead silent! I went with it over the m1 because of price first off, second it came with all the fittings needed (didn't have to purchase separately), it came with the controller mount & its apex ready.

It does come with a float you can setup, if the water levels gets to high and triggers the float the pump will shut off. Very nice addition, I'm not using that feature on the pump, I did order more varios float switch brackets to program to my apex break out box!!!

You also get a switch that can shut down the pump, it's include with each Varios pump
