I have heard of people feeding tangs Romaine Lettuce. So I just got to thinking why couldn't you feed them garden fresh Spinach or Kale? Those are more nutritious than lettuce, has anyone fed them anything like that? Do you think it would be ok to feed them that? I don't have a refugium, so I wanted to find something nutritious to feed them.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will try some of these things. What do y'all feed your tangs, in the form of algae, besides the dried?

I use nori, and seaweed extreme by Hikari. Something about the seaweed extreme, once they acclimate to it, that really fattens them up.

I use green and purple dried nori today. However, when I had a yellow and kole tang in a 100 gallon I previously owned I would feed them Tang Heaven from IPSF. One of the orders I placed they included some live algae / sea weed that I tossed into my refugium. Added a light and it grew just like they said it would. Took some out and added it to a clip, tangs went bonkers over it. Nutrient export, sustainable, and natural fish food for the tangs exactly what they would see in Hawaii.

Setting something up similar now with my 210 upgrade that I completed recently.

That's what I was thinking about doing. I think I'm going to try a light from amazon.

I have a yellow, a Kole and a powder brown tang. I feed them nori. They are about medium size and eat just over a sheet of nori per day. Plus, they graze the rocks. I feed them on two different clips to keep the squabbles down.
