Here's a crazy idea. When I have to dip my corals or want to move them, I have to snap them off the rock and then reglue them every time. What if I took some plain Velcro and glued a side to the rock and a side on the bottom of the plug. I'm talking a small piece, smaller than a dime. Then you could just pop them off and stick them somewhere else. Thinking outside the box, but do you think it would work?

I'd worry about the breakdown of the Velcro in the tank plus it would only work while the coral is not encrusted.

prior to putting my rockscape in my tank, i drill a ton of 3/8 holes in my rocks, so the plugs just slide in. after the rocks color up it looks good!

Yea, velcro in tank is a bad idea. But I use industrial strength velcro outside of my tank for alot of things. My APEX, ATO, Surge protector, etc. are all mounted on my wall with velcro. Never had a problem for years and no holes to drill or worry about.

I do not leave the algae scrubbers in my tank.
But mainly, the Velcro which glb speaks of would have to have both sides of the Velcro inside the tank, not only the hard plastic side (AKA the algae scrubbers) but also the fabric side (used to attached to the hard plastic side) which would eventually deteriorate in the tank and potentially cause negative effects. I would not use Velcro in tanks.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I like that I can throw out an idea and get honest feedback without any attitude. You guys are the best!

They make a Velcro (hook and loop ) which does not have a soft side. Both sides are hooks. It makes a very strong connection. Which would solve the soft side concerns. It's a plastic which most are very hard to breakdown.
How would one fasten the Velcro to the rock?
And un used Velcro would likely get clogged with stuff.
The adhesive would have to be safe too
It's a interesting concept though.

The velcro is plastic and should not be a problem. There are numerous plastic components inside the tank. Like someone here said the algae magnets dont present problems. However they are sealed tight in plastic encasement. The only issue I would have would be any glue on the velcro. If you plan to use plain velcro not a self adhesive velcro it should be fine. Next problem would be that velcro is kind of thick. You may find your piece will not stand up straight but will lean as when you combine the top and bottom of the velcro you will have too much sway. Good idea work on it.

I was thinking attach it with superglue. The bristles would have to be cleaned occasionally so they wouldn't become encrusted. The Velcro itself wouldn't have any adhesive on it. I've been rolling this around in my head for a while so I thought I'd throw it out there.

I got a sample kit a while a go. One of them is frag plug size with the back being hard plastic looks perfict for frags.

Some corals don't encrust a base. Many birdsnests, for example...

Algae magnet scrubbers are Velcro and they hang out in the tank all day, no?

+1!!!

And to those worried about the fluffy side: Rest assured there are no natural substances to break down in that...same material as the hooks. If anything I'd worry about the glue that comes on the back of the velcro. (Regardless of what glue you use on top of it.)

I like the concept of the "dual lock" stuff....wonder how it is in real life. Might be too hard to pull apart...or too easy...

Oh you'd have to use the kind without adhesive for sure. I'd superglue it down. Maybe in a little crevice so the coral would settle into the niche and the velcro wouldn't make it stick up too much.

Never seen it without adhesive. Special order?

Nope. It's in the sewing section of any big store. It's used for clothes and super cheap.
