long story short have a white tail, chocolate, and blue tang in QT. Display is fallow. They have been in QT since Jan 15. They all had velvet and ich or both. Treated with coppersafe for 21 days. Had to reduce copper due to the white tail and blue tang who stopped eating and looked bad. Been running anti biopics Kanaplex as I think my white tail had stress induced HELLE as well as selcon. The chocolate and the white tail seem to be disease free, swim and eat fine. But the hippo eats little and noticed he still hides and shakes. Is it possible he is still infected? Another round of copper?

If you only ran copper for 21 days and then started reducing Cu level in same tank it is possible that something made it through.

Flukes is another possibility. The HLLE is likely a result of copper and is especially common in tangs that are exposed to high levels or long periods of copper.

What test kit were you using and at what level did you treat?

21 days at right around 2.0 with coppersafe. Tested with api. I lowered through water changes gradually over the weeks. Figured 21 might be ok I suspect it’s a low to trace level amount of copper currently.

Prior to QT they all had a rodi bath didn’t see anything come off.

You can run copper for 14 days and effectively eradicate parasites, IF you transfer to a second, sterile tank without lowering the copper first.

When using only one tank, it’s advised to run copper for at least 30 days prior to lowering... and even that could be a bit short compared to the longest known encysted stage of ich.

Many people (including myself) prefer the two QT method because it’s generally easier on the fish and can actually be more effective.
